Juniper Elementary does not allow students to use personal electronic devices during school hours.
"Electronic device" means a device that is used for audio, video, or text communication or any other type of computer or computer-like instrument including: (a) a smart phone; (b) a smart or electronic watch; (c) a tablet; or (d) a virtual reality device. This also includes airpods and headphones.
Should a student need or choose to bring an electronic device to school:
- The school is not responsible for loss or damage
- The device must be kept inside a backpack
- The device must be turned off during school hours
Please note that videotaping of oneself or others is strictly prohibited at any time during the school day and includes all areas of the campus.
If a student needs to contact a parent during the school day for an emergency, he/she may request permission from the teacher to go to the main office to make the call.
Consequences for Electronic Device Policy Violation
- 1st Offense:
- Reminder from the teacher to put the electronic device in a backpack.
- Email from teacher to parents.
- 2nd Offense:
- Electronic device is put in a sealed envelope with the student’s name and stored in the main office.
- Email from teacher to parents.
- Discipline referral entered in Skyward.
- The student may pick up the electronic device from the main office at the end of the day.
- 3rd Offense:
- Electronic device is put in a sealed envelope with the student’s name and stored in the main office.
- Discipline referral entered in Skyward.
- Phone call from administration to parents to discuss one of two options: Cell phone must be left at home, or, cell phone must be checked into the main office every morning to be picked up after school.
- The parent may pick up the electronic device from the main office.
